How we work

Blu-H brings together volunteer expertise, technical collaboration and partnerships to develop practical environmental information for humanitarian use.

Our Board provides strategic oversight, our core team coordinates delivery, and our wider community contributes specialist expertise to programmes and organisational priorities.

We work with humanitarian organisations, national agencies, researchers and technical partners to understand operational needs and develop solutions that are useful in practice. Our work is supported by responsible governance and guided by a simple principle: open where possible, protected where necessary.

Governance and accountability

Blu-H ASBL (RCS Luxembourg: F15177) is a registered non-profit association based in Luxembourg. Our Board provides strategic direction and ensures that the organisation remains focused on its public-benefit mission and meets its legal and financial responsibilities.

Funds and donations received by Blu-H are used to advance our humanitarian mission, sustain essential technical infrastructure and support responsible operations. As our programmes and partnerships develop, we continue to strengthen our governance arrangements, policies and internal controls.

Open where possible, protected where necessary
We make selected methodologies, code and technical documentation publicly available where this supports scrutiny, collaboration and reuse. Personal, confidential or potentially harmful information is managed securely and shared only with authorised people.

This reflects established humanitarian practice: responsible data management should be safe, ethical and effective, especially when disclosure could expose vulnerable people or partners to harm. OCHA Data Responsibility Guidelines.

GitHub is our public technical workspace. We use it to share selected code, methodology notes, technical documentation and development roadmaps.

Publishing this work allows others to review how our solutions are developed, follow their progress and, where appropriate, reuse or contribute to them. It helps make our technical work more transparent and strengthens collaboration across the humanitarian and scientific communities.

Accessible and practical 

Environmental information only creates value when people can access, understand and use it. We aim to design our website and digital tools for people using different devices, assistive technologies and internet connections.

As our platforms develop, we are working towards conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Our priorities include clear navigation, keyboard access, compatibility with assistive technologies, readable content and meaningful text alternatives for visual information.
